We have now collected (in April and Sept 2009) and analyzed two  systems, Carwash (Aktun Ha) and the lower reaches of the Yax Chen/Ox Bel Ha Cave system.  We have collected and analyzed close to 60 surface sediment samples and 6 sediment cores from these caves and we have conducted Hydrolab water chemistry profiles as well.

We are analyzing the sediments for their microfossil content allowing us to reconstruct the salinity of the water over the past 5-6000 yrs.  We are starting to see repeatable trends in the cave sediments which we  believe are linked to climate change.

Further synthesis will  hopefully isolate the causative factors allowing us to predict future trends and environmental impacts.
